- Decreasing the levels of the “hungry” hormone ghrelin. Interestingly ghrelin is increased when you don’t get enough sleep. So if you are not getting enough sleep, losing weight will also be more challenging.
Combining these activities in the brain reduces appetite and, consequently, reduces food intake.
Prescription weight loss medications are typically used in people who are obese or overweight (with a BMI of over 27) and have not been able to lose weight through diet and exercise alone. These weight loss pills can be used short-term or long-term, depending on the individual’s needs.
In a clinical trial, patients taking Rybelsus lost an average of 8 pounds in 12 weeks. They also maintained the loss for six months after discontinuing use.
How to take Rybelsus weight loss pills
Rybelsus is a daily tablet that should be taken in the morning at least half an hour before food with around 120ml of water. At the same time, you should eat a healthy diet with lots of fruit and vegetables and drink plenty of fluid.
Common side effects
The most common side effects are short-term nausea and constipation, diarrhoea, stomach cramps, bloating, and belching. In addition, increased acid production occurs in some people. These usually pass in 99% of people in a week or two, but everyone is different, and you may not suffer.

Is Rybelsus safe?
Currently Rybelsus, along with several other common drugs we use, is not yet fully licensed for weight loss and it is prescribed “off-label”. This does not mean it is unsafe for use but is being used for a different condition than the manufacturer originally intended.
Rest assured, these are very safe drugs with few interactions with other medicines or medical conditions. You will be fully assessed before the medication is prescribed.
The main (rare) significant side effect is pancreatitis. If you have ever had this, you are usually not a suitable candidate for our plan. Pancreatitis has also been linked with very fast weight loss, so weight loss should be pretty slow but consistent.
In the various extensive studies, some people also had an increased heart rate but no serious outcomes.
In studies with rodents, Rybelsus, and medicines that work like Rybelsus, caused thyroid tumours, including thyroid cancer. However, it is unknown if Rybelsus will cause thyroid tumours or a type of thyroid cancer called medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) in people. This means that you should not use Rybelsus if:
- You or any of your family have ever had MTC, or if you have an endocrine system condition called Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2)
- You have had a severe allergic reaction to Semaglutide or any ingredient in Rybelsus.
Tell your healthcare provider if you get a lump or swelling in your neck, hoarseness, trouble swallowing, or shortness of breath. These may be symptoms of thyroid cancer.
